Emily and cohorts anti women's movement

Emily has informed me she no longer wears pants but only dresses and skirts. I've tried to convince her that her pants and shorts are just as cute. One morning I put one of Emily's Capri leggings on Jane and had Jane model for Emily saying how cute Jane looks in her pants. I was hoping to make Emily a little possessive and want her leggings back so she would wear them. All Emily said was "Wow Jane those are really cute on you"
I noticed one afternoon while picking Emily up from preschool that ALL of the girls in Emily's class were wearing dresses. I asked one of the moms and she assured me that her daughter insists on wearing dresses as well. I'm a little blown away that this is already starting. I guess girls at all ages notice what is and is not in "style".
So what have I done. I've given up the battle and broke down and bought a couple more "play" dresses for Emily to wear everyday.
Sorry to all those ladies worked so hard to liberate women so we can wear cute jeans. My Emily is not a taker.

Amen

Whenever it is time to say a prayer and Bart asks "Who's turn is it?" Emily usually responds with "Not mine I did it yesterday" meanwhile Jane ever so quietly will immediately fold her arms and say ab dub dub dub dub dub as her own little prayer. Here Jane is doing it with a little prompting. At the end she says Amen. I think it is so cute!

The day is finally here..

I was able to put a small pony tail and clip in Jane's hair. Too bad she promptly ripped it out! I still have a little hope she may have curly hair like her daddy. Here's to hoping.

Give me a Brake

Emily loves to be outside riding her bike in our driveway! She's got steering and pedaling down but not the braking. Both Bart and I continue to teach her how to use her brakes but her stubborn self does not want to be shown how to do it but she wants to do it her way. Her way is one of two. She will either stop pedaling and coast to a stop or she will drive into the curb, that separates our house from our neighbors, and stop herself. Unfortunately driving into the curb sometimes ends with a crash. One night Bart attempted to help Emily realize that driving into the curb is not a good idea and once again tried to teach her about the brake system of her bike. The next day I was outside with her and she drove into the curb and crashed again. I could see the shock mixed with shame that she did something wrong on her face but I think she didn't want another lesson on braking so instead of crying she said "It's OK momma that just tickled"
Oh Emily!

Herding Cats....

Or to say it nicer Emily's soccer league. Emily had such a fun time playing soccer. At first she refused to step foot on the field. After half time her super nice and patient coach took by the hand and ran around with her holding her hand the rest of the game. I hate to admit it but I also had to bribe her a couple of times saying "the treats at the end are only for kids who play". In classic Emily fashion after she warmed up to the idea and tested the waters she was soon running around and having a great time. I'd like to say she became the star making lots of goals but mostly she just ran around following the crowd and occasionally if the ball landed right in front of her she would kick it. After one game she told me she really liked it when she started playing ring around the rosies during the game. The joy of being 4!

What would I give....

for a self cleaning floor. Especially now that Jane demands her own plate and utensil at meal time.
