My boys with Bart at their teams Jr. Jazz night at the Jazz game.
Spencer started the season off loving the sport and confidently strutting around like a "baller". He would get ready to go in his basketball gear and then anxiously ask me all morning when if it was time to go to his game. Spencer was so fun to watch because where the ball was he was the first one there and taking down the court and shooting it never being intimated by good and bad defense. And then one Saturday like a switch he decided he didn't like basketball and didn't even want to go to the game. We encouraged (drug) him to go telling him that his teammates really need him on the court to take the lead like he always does. He begrudgingly went but gave minimal effort on the court and took frequent water breaks to let us know he was not happy to be there. Once in a while he would forget his woes and turn on the 'baller' but when the season was over he happily ran out of the rec center not even bothering to stop and get the treat provided, proclaiming he was done with basketball. I should have signed him up for some sports psychology study because Spencer is proof that its all about mindset!
I love watching Aaron's love of basketball grow. Last fall he would plug his Alexa into the garage, stream his favorite music and shoot hoops for hours each night. I was sad to think that he would have to stop practicing when the weather turned cold but he's continued to go out and shoot hoops even when despite the temperature.
Aaron's aggressive on the court and is quite the rebounder. Who says white men can't jump. It's fun to see him and his team be more thoughtful and run different plays. Bart went with him to practice and then afterwards would stay and work with him to be in control of his body to make more shots. I just love watching him love playing a game we all love.
