Time with Emily

A little guilt
Sometimes I feel a little selfish that I pushed to uproot my city husband to the "suburbs". But after I spend an afternoon doing something like coloring Easter Eggs with my girls on the kitchen island without any elbowing for space, I don't feel so bad anymore.
Thanks Bart for your sacrifice!

Thrown out the window
If I've learned anything from having 3 children it would be that most ideas I had about being a fabulous parent is tried and tested with parenthood and then eventually thrown out the window. Case in point.....
The summer after I graduated from USU and right before I started Grad School I moved home to work and save money. I worked as a TA at Aspen Ranch during the day with Matt Alexander as the principle. In the evenings I worked as a desk clerk for the Alexander's Lodge and occasionally babysat their 3 kids. Feeling a little like a personal assistant that summer I spent a lot of time with that adorable family. Once while I was working in the Lodge's kitchen with Denise I noticed how well her young boys ate vegetables. I asked her the secret and she swore that her kids like veggies because when she was first feeding them she introduced vegetables first until they learned to like them before they the yummy stuff like fruit. I thought that made sense and I stashed the idea away for a future day.
When I started feeding Emily and Jane I did like Denise and only fed them vegetables first. I have no research to confirm whether it is the right way to go but both of my girls like vegetables and one of Emily's favorite foods is salad. Recently I started feeding Aaron. With a lot of encouragement from Ally and plenty of space with a new deep freeze I pureed a whole lot of vegetables to made a lot of homemade baby food. Just as Aaron was getting used to the green stuff my great idea was blown out the window.
Every Sunday as we are getting ready to leave Bart's parents home my girls grab a zip lock bag and load up on goodies from the laundry room. One such Sunday Aaron was especially cranky, he's a tad bit spoiled with me being home all the time and will only take naps in his own bed. We finally get out the door and I brace myself for the long ride home with a fussy little boy. Soon after we took off Aaron settled right down and I breathed a sigh of relief and enjoyed the ride home.
As I was getting Aaron out of his car seat I noticed his face covered in chocolate and his tongue was bright blue. Turns out his happiness was a direct result of Jane feeding him her treats the whole way home.
So much for vegetables!!

6 months
Look who is 6 months old today! Aaron Judd Richards a.k.a Aaronbadaaron, Aaron Boy, the little boy. Holy Cow, Where has the time gone.
Not a day goes by that I don't say a little prayer of gratitude that Aaron was sent to our family. Even though he is so small he influences my little family is such a powerful way. He makes us all smile a little more and feel calmer and happier. As I was preparing for a long weekend trip to Cali to visit my sister Jane was asking me questions about what was happening. At the end of our discussion she asked me if Aaron could stay home. I told her I needed to take him so he could eat and then she got this sad look on her face and said "But mom I want him to stay because I'm happy when I am with him." Later that night I had the same conversation with Emily who said the same thing.
Besides being so easy going and chill, Aaron is a charmer. He laughs, giggles and squeals his way into conversations and then babbles like he's got something to add. My favorite is when I'm holding him and he will grab my face with both hands and give me a big old slobbery kiss.
Aaron's favorite pastime is being malled by his sisters, hanging in his jumperoo and rolling around grabbing and chewing on his toys. He's on the verge of crawling and lunged forward a couple of times. Who knows when he'll sit up. He does not like being on his bum including any time he has had in the bumbo.
