The next few hours are spent pulling up the carpet. Ripping out the pad. Shop vacuuming the cement and carpet, tracking down box fans, and setting them up. Jane was also feeling really bad that she was the one who turned on the hose to "water her dying flower" but couldn't turn it off and left it which in turned ran into the window well.
As I tucked the girls in bed, Emily broke down in tears saying "You can have my $77 dollars I have in the bank to fix the problem. Jane said she'd give me all her piggy bank money too. When it was time for the nightly song, My girls picked the song "Count your many Blessings" (the primary song of the month). At the end of the song I told them that this is a good night to remember our blessings. Emily said "Yeah can we count them right now. I said "you'll have to do it yourself, I've got to get back to helping your dad." I then threatened them that no matter what sounds you hear from downstairs you have to stay in your bed!!!
As we were waiting for a nice man in the ward to bring over the fans I told Bart. "I guess things like this happen because we signed up to have kids." He looked at me and raised his eyebrow like "I never signed up for this".
Later I found this sweet note folding up like a paper airplane on my family room floor. I'm sure Emily sent it sailing when she knew the coast was clear.

What a sweet note! And a perfect reminder. So sorry about the carpet. Were you able to salvage it?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry your basement flooded! There are so many sweet things the girls said that came from this story. Poor poor Jane with her good intentions. I love that Emily sent a note on an airplane, and that you said you had a billion trillion blessings.
