Long, Lean and Strong

It's interesting to give birth to a big baby.  During the hospital everyone would comment about Aaron's size.    I heard things like "Oh you poor thing to deliver such a big baby" "Wow he's huge"  "Is this kid really a newborn?"  I know people weren't saying this to offend me and many people would take great pride in producing such a big kid but my momma bear instinct made me a little defensive because he was my little baby boy.
The only time I got mad was when the pediatrician came in at 5 in the morning to go over his assessment.   He was incredibly long winded talking non stop about safety issues which in my half conscious state I tuned most of it out until he said "You need to be very cautious placing him up high because they can roll over so quickly.  Although big babies tend not to be as active so that's probably not a huge concern."   I wanted to slap him saying my baby might be big but he won't be a big fat lug.

When Aaron rolled over from his belly to his back at 6 weeks I exclaimed to nobody in particular.  "See there Dr. Lindsay my big lug of a baby just rolled over".  I pronounced it again on Jan 3rd as he rolled from his back to his front at 14 weeks.

We just got back from Aaron's 4 month check up.  At 27 inches he continues to be in the 99% in height and is 14.4 pounds (50%) in weight.  I noticed on his chart that he is 3 inches taller than the average boy his same age.   As our "New" pediatrician  was observing Aaron's long hands and feet ask me how tall my husband is.  He didn't say it but I think he was predicting Aaron to be tall.

Watch out Bart I'm betting Aaron gives you a run for your money on height.   I guess we will watch and see.  If I and everyone else is wrong and Aaron turns out short.  I love him just the same!!

Here's some pictures of Aaron growing.

Hard Lessons

Emily broke her toe.    (Poor thing)    She and Jane decided they needed a TV in their room so they picked up our old heavy dinosaur TV and it fell smack on her big toe.   Man did her toe bleed and continue to bleed for a few days afterwards.     We finally took her to the Doctor after a couple of days to make sure it wasn't infected.  She came home with a big boot to protect her toe and to give it a little more comfort while it healed.    At first I think she liked all the attention she got from her classmates but after a couple of days she came home and said "I wish I would have never picked up that T.V.  Today at school our class finally earned a golden ticket and we all went into the gym to play kickball and I just had to sit there and watch."
It's sad to see her in pain and I wish I could take it all away but the only thing I can do is watch the hard lesson learned from a natural consequence.

I'm a great helper

Jane is amazing!    She's the kind of gal who is up and at it early in the morning and uses her energy constructively.   After breakfast she'll often head upstairs without a word and spend some time making beds and cleaning.   She is often found organizing her locker/cubby.  Jane likes her shoes lined up straight and her coats color coordinated with blue coats on the left and pink on the right.     Jane also gets a big kick out of surprising me by making my bed while I am in the shower in the morning.

The other day we were out shoveling the driveway and Jane states enthusiastically "I'm a great helper".    I'm so thankful I have my great helper who makes my life a little easier.

There were 5 in the bed and the little one said..

Aaron is a perfect baby but a bad boy when it comes to sleeping at night. Right now he is up every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.   The other night I had him in bed with me while he was nursing and Emily appears because she had a bad dream.  She cuddles with her dad for a while and then because I am not a fan of the family bed I kick him awake to go put her back in her bed.   (The rule in my house is I am in charge of the baby and Bart is in charge of the girls if they wake up).  So he carries her back to bed.  A short time  later Emily is back because she can't fall asleep.   I tell her to get some blankets and she can sleep on our floor.  Some time goes by and she's back in our bed because she still can't fall asleep.  A while later and Jane appears because she woke up and became  worried because Emily is not in her bed.  By this time I just waved her over to her dad who sticks her in bed with us.    I don't sleep when I have babies or kids in my bed so I just laid there exhausted and remembered after I had Jane my Grandma Morrell went on and on about what a glorious time it was when all of her children were so small.  Thinking that my crowded bed was anything but glorious I realized there will come a time when my kids won't want to be right next to me all the time so I put my arms around all of them and decided to enjoy the moment.

Good thing we have a California King.  Not sure how you have family with anything smaller.

At least without a dog we still have a little leg room!!!

4 going on 6

Although Jane turned 4  I think she acts more like a 6 year old.  She woke up all giggly and excited for the day.

A week or so before her birthday I asked her what kind of cake she wanted.  She tried to describe it to me but we weren't on the same page.  Finally I asked her to draw me a picture.  She spend some time and came up with this....

I asked her a few times since then what she wanted and she kept bringing this picture back to me.  So I attempted the abstract cake and came up with this...

We spent some time at planet play with her cousins and then had everyone over for tacos, cake and ice cream.   She loves all the loot everyone got her.    I can't tell if she or her dad had more fun flying the tinkerbell toy.  Now that she has her very own American Girl doll, she's spent all morning combing it's hair and changing it's clothes.

I love this girl!    She gets so excited about life and reminds me to find joy in small things.
