Aaron's Grateful letter

Aaron came home from school with a Thankful letter to Bart and I. I've searched the house for it and am so bummed I can't find it. Basically it said this

"Dear Mom and Dad"

Thank you for the roof over my head. Thank you for the food that I eat. And thank you mom for watching the clone wars with me.

A while back I glanced through the book "Love language for kids". I didn't read all of it but I got the message that as parents we need to figure out how our kids feel love from us. The other 3 are harder to pin point but I knew exactly what Aaron needs. He loves physical touch and he loves star wars. Since birth he is always touching things figuring them out with his hands sort of a kid. I made a commitment to give Aaron more affection. I started rubbing his back and feet and now it's our thing before he goes to bed. Since Aaron started watching star wars at 3 he will jabber on and on about it with me. While watching the Mandalorin together the show would mention things I didn't understand and he would say mom that's in the clone wars. After the series was finished he was convinced I needed to watch the Clone Wars to fully understand everything going on with all the many off shots of the story. I committed to it before I realized that there were 7 seasons with 22 episodes each 25 minute . It took about 8-9 months but it became a motivator to get him to finish his school work and piano. and then we would watch an episode afterwards. I'm not going to lie it was painful at times but we kept on. Not sure a whole lot of cartoon wars and violence and just a little bit of relationship stuff is my type of show.

To get this letter made it all worth the 55 hours and 41 minutes. I love that star wars bonds us together. I'm also a little proud that I feel like I'm at expert level knowledge with all things star wars! I'm still not as good as Aaron is at connecting all the story lines together with certain things that happened in one show but at least I can keep up with the characters.

Next up is the Book of Boba Fett. Aaron can hardly wait.

E: (making muffins for her farewell with her friend Alix. She started scooping sour cream into a measuring cup). I hate sour cream scooping sour cream so bad. Emily has already been on a magazine. Wow what's next (October 2023) M: (spencer woke up especially early one morning and came into my room). Mencie its too early to be awake. Come lay down by me and lets cuddle. S: (after squeezing him really tight). Man if stuffy wuffy feels like this I feel bad him (October 2023) A: (driving the boys to school the first day and we pull up next to their bus at a stop light) Look Spencer we have a Lady bus driver. S: Yes!!!!!!! M: Why would that matter? A: Because she's most likely nice. M: My meanest bus driver growing up was a woman. A: Girl Bus drivers can be mean but there is only 2 ways a woman bus driver can be. Guy bus drivers are like always mean (August 2023) S: Telling grandma becky that everytime he goes to the mall and shares his quarters with his siblings to get a gumball his gumball machine always gives him 2. M: It's like I say "the more you give the more get" G-ma Becky: Yup because "nothing is really yours until you give it away" S: (on the way home from Teasdale with a smurk sparkle in his eye). I feel like I'm getting jipped out of my $1 diet coke. E: Waaa Waaa Waaaa. Did somebody call the Waambulance. S: (Laughing so hyserically). That's so funny. Mom's a Wambulance. waaa waaa waaa (May 2023) M: (feeling pretty proud after relearning a little pre calculus and then teaching Emily to help her get ready for a test). I'm pretty awesome at teaching math E: You are mom M: I'm so good maybe I should be a math teacher. E: No you do not M: What? why not I taught you didn't I . E: Yeah but everybody hates their math teacher. Do you know how many death wishes you'd have on you? M: good point (Jan 2023) S: (talking about kindergarten and when they had special days like take your stuffed animal to school.). Mom what if the school had a come to school naked day. M: Oooo. yuck. I wouldn't want to see everyone naked. I think I would be absent that day. S: (laughing hysterically). Yeah I would call the principal and say..... I'm not feeling very good today and need to stay home. (Jane 2023) M: (driving home from Bart's parents house). OK guys when we get home we need to do Come Follow me. E: Really? I just want to go be alone. (more moaning and groaning from the others in the backseat) M: Come on guys lets not let the devil win. We can do this. E: (mocking voice:) Don't let the devil win Aaron and Jane: (chanting). Don't let the devil win. Spencer: (with his I'm a turkery lurkey smurk in his eye pipes in). Let the Devil win!! M: (trying to sound shocked ) Spencer!!!! M: (during the Pace Christmas party gift exchange I lost the money we were given in an envelope). has anyone seen the envelope for Bart and me. chatter from everyone: Way to go you lost your money. A week after he had is reward). Mom can I stay in my bed for a week and earn another reward? M: No because you don't have a hard time staying in your room anymore. S: Yes I do I wake up every night scared and want to come down to your room but then I tell myself to toughen up ( Aug. 2022) M: (in california driving Ally's 3 youngest and Spencer driving to a science camp that Hazel attended the year before) Hazel: I think you guys will be making slime. Clara: My mom really hates slime. S: Momma you hate slim to don't you. M: Yeah it can ruin things like carpet really easy. Hazel: Yeah well my mom hates it so much that anytime we bring some home from school or someplace she immediately throws it in the garbage. S: Wow your mom must.... (insert dramatic pause) M: (when I heard the pause I thought he was going to say.... be really mean) S: REALLY HATE SLIME (Aug 2022) S: hey mom do you know what would happen with our bodies if we never drank any water. S: (sitting next to him on the bed while tucking him in) momma how was your day today? M: It was good S: what was the best part of your day? M: well there was a student at school who doesn't talk and while I was reading the book 5 little monkey's swinging on the tree he started doing the actions and then at the end said snap, snap, snap. S: Wow he really never says anything. M: nope that's why I work with him. So what was the best part of your day. S: (he sat up and gave me a big hug and said ). Giving you a hug. (Feb 2023) M: Emily you are going to make the best mom. You are so loving, accepting and encouraging of everyone around you. You go with the flow and have a great sense of humor that makes you fun to be around. Your kids are going to love you. E: Maybe but my house with will be a mess. I don't like to clean. M: You can always work on that starting with your room right now. E: Yeah no. I think I'd rather make my husband sign a waiver that if he is going to marry me he has to do all the cleaning. (Nov 2021) E: (crying big huge tears that crush a momma heart after accidentally deleting all of her pictures she took with her cheap $20 mini camera she got as a birthday present) My pictures are gone. Deleted forever M: Didn't anybody else take those pictures that you could get them from: E: Yeah but not with the weird filters and bad quality that my camera had (Nov. 2021) M: (tucking Aaron in and from the next room I hear Spencer) S: I am meditating, I am meditating, I am meditating (over and over) M: Spencer it's time to be quiet and go to sleep S: OK I'll meditate in my head (Nov 2021) S: Mom do you know that I know how to wave my arm for the primary songs? M: that's cool (thinking its the signs they teach them to help remember the words) B: (during the primary program songs Spencer in all of his glory was following along with the chorister, Bart leans over). What is he doing? M: Leading the music. Spencer's just being Spencer (afterwards the couple in charge of the sacrament music came up and said Spencer is so adorable leading the music. Who taught him how because he was right on beat) (Nov 2021) S: (singing I am a Child of God and got to the part that says 'and so my needs are great). And so my knees are grey (October 2021) E: Oh fork M: Emily your mouth. E: Mom I don't swear I utensil. (Sept 2021) A: (feeling sad and anxious in sacrament meeting about his pending talk in primary). Mom could you have another baby so I can cuddle it. M: Sorry I'm too old to have more babies. A: Well then can't you adopt one? M: No our family is complete but you can always cuddle all the new cousins. A: (big sigh). OK but I just wish one was ours(Aug 2021) S: (after the tooth fairy came and doubled his reward for letting Bart pull out both lower teeth). Man if the next time the tooth fairy comes and I only get coins I'm for sure not letting dad pull anymore teeth. Just not worth it for that (Aug 2021) G Dick: (after hearing G Becky read a facebook post from the farm Bureau about fasting/prayer for the drought). Well I'm going to start praying for wind because the more I pray for rain all I get it wind. Maybe if I pray for wind the rain will come. (May 2021) S: Mom how do you like the rainbow flowers I gave you for mother's day?

M: I love them they are the best

S: Well I really wanted to give you the pink flowers but dad said they are poisonous.

M: (in my head. Ha ha I bet Bart's poisonous means too expensive). (May 2021)

M: (Aaron wears the same couple of hoodies every day to school. Often Emily points it out to Aaron warning him not to be the kid who is always wearing the same hoodie. As Aaron came out for church one day wearing the same white shirt he's worn for the past 3 months I comment). Aaron why don't you wear another one of your church shirts. You have more in your closet?

E: Yeah Aaron do you want to be that kid always wearing the same thing?

A: I already am THAT kid(February 2021)

S: (trying to solve that there is only 3 airheads and 4 kids problem). I have an idea. Aaron you can give Emily a little bit of your arrow head and Jane you can give Emily a little bit of your arrow head. That's a good solution.

M: What about you can you share some of your airhead?

S: But I want all of mine (January 2021)

S: (Bart and I arrived home from a date). Mom your home. How was your wedding?

M: It was a date not a wedding Spencer

S: Oh well how was your date? (January 2021)

S: (after hearing that Bart and I are going on a date). But mom if you and dad are on a date there won't be any parents around for me to talk to all day (January 2021)

S: (wrapped up a gift me for all by himself, wrote M O M on it and handed it to me Christmas morning.)

M: Spencer how nice of you. Did you wrap this yourself

S: Beamed with pride.

M: (opened it and saw an empty roll of tape).

S: It's for you to take and put more tape on it (Dec 2020)

M: (coughing after choking on some water in the car)

J: Oh mom you've got to stop coughing or people will think you have covid.

M: It's not like you can just make yourself not cough.

J: I can. I guess you are just not at the level yet mom.

E: It's true mom. You should see how everyone looks at someone when they start coughing in class (Dec 2020)

J: (coming down the stair the night after Zoey arrived and she saw that Zoey hadn't moved. She walked by me shaking her head). Mom what will the kids think?

M: Jane it had to be done or Spencer will never learn his lesson to not touch the elf. (Dec 2020)

S: (looking at his plate of unappetizing dinner). Mom you know how after I poop some of it is in my underwear and then my bum starts to itch.

M: Yeah

S: Well eating makes you poop so I'm not going to each anymore and then I won't poop and have an itchy bum.

M: And you will also starve to death

M: (leaving Lake Powell after hurrying to load up in a wind storm) next year we've got to figure out how to get on a house boat.

S: How can we figure that out? Hmm.. we'll also have to figure out how to to drive the boat and get the boat. 1st we need to get the boat and then we climb up the ladder to get on the boat and then how do you drive it?

M: I think dad could drive it but it cost too much money.

M: I know you do and you never get in trouble do you?

A: No not really maybe just once or twice.

M: Really what did you do?

J: Mom you got to do something about him

E: Mom we have to go to Wal Mart now to get school supplies before we leave for Grandma Becky's house tomorow.

M: We still have over 3 weeks until school starts I'm sure we can go after you get back.

E: Oh no we can't mom because all the stuff except for the black binders and black notebooks and other black stuff will be gone and then I'll go to school and everyone will think I'm goth (August 2018)

M: (giving Spencer his daily potty pep talk). OK Spencer when you feel poop in your bum yell potty potty and we'll run to the toliet and then the poop will get in the toliet and then you'll get that yo yo you really want.

S: (shakes his head) I don't want too. I don't like yo yo's anymore (July 2018)

G. Becky: Have you seen Spencer kick? I've never seen a 2 year old who can kick over his head. It's amazing. I hope I live long enough to watch him play professional soccer.

M: I hope I live long enough to see him poop in the toliet

S: (crawling into my lap while I was watching TV in my recliner he has did this after he ran away from me after a shower and then came back a while later saying cold and then I wrapped in in his towel and he jumped up onto Bart's chest while he was laying on the couch) Awe cuddles (March 2018)

J: (at the beginning of potty training I told the kids that if Spencer does anything in the potty everyone gets a treat) Spencer? Do you need to go Pee Pee, Poo Poo, or Caca?

J: That's what they always told us at the kids club on the cruise. Don't you know we always joke about it with Max and Ben? (March 2018)

M: (in the car coming home from Jane's soccer game). I think we only have time to stop by and get a pizza for dinner.

J: OK can we at least have only cheese on it

A: NOOOO.... not the cheese. I hate just cheese pizza

M: Yeah that's a great fortune. What do you think Aaron can we be best friends

E: (Our Elf was discovered on the floor with Aaron as the culprit being the one who drug her around and left her in the middle of the floor. Emily was very distraught upon finding this Elf knowing that because she was touched she probably wouldn't be able to make it back to the North Pole). I just don't know what we are going to do about the Elf. It's not going to be able to go back to the North Pole again because it's in the middle of the floor and it will keep getting touched. (thinking) What can we do? I hate this but I think the only thing that can be done is to get rid of Aaron so the Elf won't be touched and can move again(Dec 2013)

J: (Emily found an old small stocking with her name on it so she put it next to her other one on the mantel. Jane noticed it a day or so later and said) Mom we have 2 Emily stockings and we need to take this one off. E: (driving home from preschool) Oh mom I almost forgot. Somebody put a bead up my nose today?

M: What? Who is somebody?

E: I don't know I forgot?

M: Could that somebody be you Emily?

E: Well yeah

M: How did you get it out?

E: I didn't

M: (starting to panic) Oh so you still have a bead up your nose OK just plug the side of your nose that the bead isn't in and blow really hard.

E: (Blowing as hard as she could and luckily out popped a black bead)

M: How long has that been up your nose?

E: Just all day mom(October 2010)

E: (in toys r us after she picked out a doll stroller that she had earned by "babysitting" Jane) OK now lets go look at more toys that we can't buy today (Sept 2010)

J: (running up to Emily with arms wide open after Emily announced she is going to bed) hugs, hugs (Sept 2010)

E: (crying with real tears pouring down her cheeks) Mom (sniff sniff) the beast is almost killed (Sept 2010)

E: (while helping me roll out the dough for Calzones. She looked at the filling and said) "That looks awful.

M: What do you mean its really good

E: Well it might TASTE good but it still looks AWFUL(Sept 2010)

M: (when my girls were goofing around in the tub) Emily you two need to stop I don't want Jane to drown.

E: It's OK mom I won't let her drown, she's my best friend(Sept 2010)

E: When I was in heaven I told Heavenly Father I want a turn.

M: Oh yeah a turn for what?

E: To come to Earth and he told me I need to wait my turn(Sept 2010)

M: Emily you and Jane need to stop right now.

E: (Running away laughing)

M: Emily you are in big trouble now

E: (taking Jane and running away laughing together) We are team right Jane(Sept 2010)

E: Mom tell me a story

M: OK but only one tonight. Which one do you want?

E: Hmmm tell me my options(Sept 2010)

J: hoe we (interpretation hold me)(August 2010)

E: Papa let's make a deal. You play with me and I'll be very happy(August 2010)

E: Mom do you know that red and white make pink?

M: Yeah, where did you learn that from?

E: (having lunch with Max after her dance recital. I think this sounded like they were on a date) Thanks Max for coming to my concert.

E: (when she was really mad at me) Mom I don't want you to be my mom anymore. I'm going to throw you in the garbage

M: Good luck with that(August 2010)

E: Dad why are you not eating lunch with me?

D: Because it's fast Sunday so I'm not eating lunch

E: Oh I see, you only eat lunch on slow Sundays(August 2010)

D: Emily is time to start settling down and have some quiet time before bed

E: I know but it's to hard. I just have so many words in my head(July 2010)

E: Mom sometimes I think I'm a genius (July 2010)

E: Mom when I get big I'm going to get married in the Temple and then Jesus will send me kids and then I'll call you up on the phone and ask if I can come visit. OK (July 2010)

E: (She constantly wants to stop by Mrs. Bakers donut shop for a treat and asks every time we drive by) When can we stop by this pink place and get a donut?

M: Well not today it's Sunday

E: Well maybe if I'm a really good listener on our vacation when we get back I can get one? (June 2010)

Allyson: (After seeing Jane's extreme stubbornness) I think Jane has a full vocabulary in her head but she knows you want her to talk so she is so stubborn she just isn't going to talk. (June 2010)

M: We should go buy Daddy a father's day tomorrow. I wonder what we should buy him? Do you have any ideas?

E: Yeah, we should go to all the stores in the world to find something like Market Square, Cosco, fresh market, market square. (June 2010)

E: We could never ever drive to Ally's house, that would be exhausting (May 2010)

E: Man there's so many Emily's in this town.(May 2010)

E: (After a truck carrying a playhouse on a trailer passed us at a stop light) Mom I don't like our car anymore.

M: How come I think our car is fine

E: No we need something else. Hey how about we get a truck?

M: Oh Emily we don't need a truck

E: Yes we do and we could get one with a trailer and then we would be able to carry a playhouse to our house.(May 2010)

E: (I've been trying to enforce the "bathrooms are a place for privacy" policy. This is what Emily said after Jane followed him into the bathroom). Mommy Jane isn't letting dad have his private in peace in the bathroom (May 2010)

E: (After I told her she needed to clean her room before I would turn on the TV) OK but could you do me a really big favor and pick up all the books in my room (April 2010)

E: Miss Sharon says mommies have to listen to everything there daughters tell them to do. (April 2010)

M: Your right I guess I should have said hi. (I've been trying to get her to be more friendly to people at church and didn't want to sound like a hypocrite.)

E: I guess you must be shy

M: Sometimes I am

E: That's OK I'm shy too(August 2009)

E: But where will I sleep (referring to Grandpa Dick's tease that he was going to sleep in her bed).

D: Emily you can sleep in our room on the floor or in our bed with us.

E: OK (pause) but they can't sleep over we don't have enough cereal for them in the morning. (July 2009)

E: Mom get that toot toot away from Jane. (referring to a plastic Hawaiian lay that Emily likes to put around her waist and pretend it is a tutu.)

M: Emily, Jane likes to play with it.

E: But mom I need my toot toot.

M: Why do you need it Emily
