A wedding story Part I

Do you remember being a little girl and loving weddings? When I was little I remember what a honor it was to be asked to serve refreshments at a wedding and the best part was wearing a silk and lace apron. My two girls had the time of their life at the wedding of Bart's brother Scott and his bride Emily, or big Emily as we sometimes have to call her not because she is big, she's anything but big, but because now there are two Emily Richards in the family.

The moment Emily stepped into her flower girl dress Bart's mom made special for her, Emily began to twirl around like a princess. We bought some new black shoes to wear with the dress and for a couple of weeks the anticipation was growing for Emily to be able to wear her dress and shoes. The day before we attended a rehearsal so Emily and Jane could practice walking down the aisle as flower girls. Jane lacked the attention span and quickly became a honorary flower girl. Emily took her role as flower girl very seriously and listened to everything the wedding coordinator asked her to do. She especially liked the bridesmaid room where she would be able to change into her special flower girl dress. The ceremony was lovely and I was so proud at how Emily handled her job to toss flower petals down the aisle so well. She even stood up in front with the other wedding party, even if she could not resist the temptation to walk over and peek out the window, so quietly and listened for her cues. She quickly made friends with the other flower girl and ran around with her and her cousins the entire night. She loved orchestrating ring around the roses in the bridesmaid room, a "tea party" on the balcony, and knew that picture taking was serious business at a wedding, even it it required "helping" Jane cooperate (see below of Emily pulling Jane).



Jane felt the party was just for her. She'd smile and twirl whenever someone would tell her how cute she looked. The photographer mentioned he thought she had so much enthusiasm for life. That's a great way to describe Jane. The best part of the wedding for Jane was the strawberry lemonade, especially if I'd let her hold her own glass. I think she drank a gallon all by herself. She loved running around with the big kids and started to repeat "cheese" when taking pictures.

It was a beautiful wedding and we enjoyed spending time with Bart's family

Jane's first Piano Lesson

While in Teasdale whenever my mom would sit down and play the piano Jane would perk up run and climb with all of her might onto the piano bench and play along side her grandma. One time she was torn between holding on to her precious blanket, it kept falling off, and being able to sit and pluck the keys. In Jane's own words, OK really my words, here is how she solved the problem.

The best part about Summer... Teasdale time!

In Emily's prayer a few days before we took off to Teasdale Emily said "Thank you that we get to go to Bentley's and Teasdale on Monday" Do you think she was just a little bit excited? Here's a list of all we did

* Spent the first night with my Sister Sarah in Koosharem.

Emily rode around the town on her bike with Bransen and Bentley,

Took rides to the local merc and playground on the T-Rex

Jumped and played all sorts of games on the trampoline including piling blankets and pillows to create a fort (that brought back a lot of memories for me as a child). I think we'll need to invest in a trampoline someday

Jane loved all the dogs around including 8 new puppies, Emily liked playing with the new puppies as well.

* We made it to Teasdale where we were joined by all of my sisters and their kids.

We met the newest member of the family Raquel's little boy Dayson. What a calm

and cute little guy. Raquel is such a cute little mom. Man if I could

guarantee a baby like this one and skip the pregnancies

I just might have a dozen more kids.

We took a lot of 4 wheeler rides to pet and feed the horses. Oh the giggles Jane let out when she saw the horses. It's been decided that Jane is a horse person. (We meant to saddle one up and go on a ride but we never got around to it. Maybe next time).

Took a ride down to Capital Reef National Park and enjoyed the nice weather and scenery

My mom and all of my sisters splurged one night and went to Cafe Diablo for dinner. I got the marinated loin of Utah lamb with Casamiento pie. Yummy!!!

1 year old and going strong

My blog is 1 year old today. Thanks blog for giving me a fast and easy way for me to record my little family's memories!

First of many times on the boats

Jane has now joined the big enough for the kiddie land rides at Lagoon. To stay true to tradition the first ride had to be on the boats. Then it was off to experience all the other rides. The funniest part of the whole day was watching the two of them on the ride next to Puff the Magic Dragon. I told Emily to put her arm around Jane so we could take a picture. Emily thought I meant put her arm around Jane to keep her safe. So the entire ride Emily had Jane in a choke hold while pulling the lever back and forth to make the ride bounce up and down. The look on Jane's face was hysterical. It was almost like she was thinking "I don't really like being in this choke hold but I think Emily is keeping me safe so I guess this is fun."

Emily has informed me she no longer wears pants but only dresses and skirts. I've tried to convince her that her pants and shorts are just as cute. One morning I put one of Emily's Capri leggings on Jane and had Jane model for Emily saying how cute Jane looks in her pants. I was hoping to make Emily a little possessive and want her leggings back so she would wear them. All Emily said was "Wow Jane those are really cute on you"
I noticed one afternoon while picking Emily up from preschool that ALL of the girls in Emily's class were wearing dresses. I asked one of the moms and she assured me that her daughter insists on wearing dresses as well. I'm a little blown away that this is already starting. I guess girls at all ages notice what is and is not in "style".
So what have I done. I've given up the battle and broke down and bought a couple more "play" dresses for Emily to wear everyday.
Sorry to all those ladies worked so hard to liberate women so we can wear cute jeans. My Emily is not a taker.
