Remembering our Decembering

Dec. always a busy month and often escapes in a blur. Here is my effort to remember December

At Halloween one of the teachers in the preschool classroom was sporting this awesome blue wig. I admitted to them that I've always thought I'd look fabulous in blue hair and that if I wasn't a 40+ LDS mom of 4 I'd totally do it. The teachers surprised me with an awesome blue wig for Christmas. Now where to wear it? 😂

Ally's family stayed with us a few days before Christmas. Ally spent much of her time buying furniture and supplies for her new Airbnb house in Teasdale. I enjoyed some kid free shopping, Ally enjoyed the insta babysitters my girls offered her and the cousins enjoyed making memories, videos and taking a lot of pictures together playing around together in my house.

Jane made the mistake of allowing 3 little wide eye girls into her room to play with all her American girl dolls that she has kept just so so.

Roy stole Emily's heart. The two of them became fast friends. Emily says he looks like a baby model.

Ally was also really kind to help me make a couple batches of caramels for neighbor gifts.

One of the days Ally was here she snuck in a ski day. She introduced Jane to skiing while I took her 2 younger ones for the day.

Emily, Aaron, Clara, Spencer, Roy and I hopped on the trax and made our way downtown to the Grand America and then onto Temple Square.

Later that night we drove to our favorite Christmas light show.

The house was overfilled with excitement Christmas morning

Bart and I somehow managed to keep the best gift of all secret from the family. Jane's been wishing for a ping pong table forever and when the renters moved out the end of November the space became available and Bart ever so slyly snuck it in the house and set it up.

Friday we had our annual Pace family gathering. This year held at the Torrey church

Later that night my Grandma Pace who just turned 98 invited us girls over to choose one of her prize hand pieced and hand quilted quilts. I love the one I chose! It kind of reminds me of my barbazone baby blanket I had as a little girl. It still stings when I think of how it was lost at 4-h camp.

It doesn't always snow in Teasdale at Christmas time but when it does the kids always enjoy sledding behind the 4 wheeler.

That afternoon we made a way over a picturesque Boulder Mountain to Papa and Nona's cabin and found Jeff had made a fun sledding trail. It was perfect way to enjoy the cabin. Play a little in the snow, run in warm up, sled again and adults got to enjoy the fun watching from the windows.

When we arrived Jeff was hard at work putting up the gate to the new driveway. Bart and John were great supervisors.

We all enjoyed a lot of time in the cabin just relaxing and enjoying all the yummy meals prepared on the Traeger.

Bart had to get back early for work on Monday morning. The older 3 kids did not want to come back so Nona and Papa were gracious enough to let them stay another day and bring them back home. Jeff made a winter campfire and everyone enjoyed roasting marshmallows on it!

Finally we finished the year off with build your own personal pizzas and a sparkling cider toast to the new year.

The blue hair looks really cool! And my boys will want to try out that ping pong table for sure.

E: (making muffins for her farewell with her friend Alix. She started scooping sour cream into a measuring cup). I hate sour cream scooping sour cream so bad. Alix: me too (looked at Emily at started gagging) E: (giving herself a motivating talk). Jesus died for my sins so i can scoop sour cream. Besides nobody would have any fun if I'm not there" (Jan 2024) S: (made his bed with his new Bluey sheets). Hey mom my bed is now "Bluey ful"(Jan 2024) S: (out of nowhere). Emily has already been on a magazine. Wow what's next (October 2023) M: (spencer woke up especially early one morning and came into my room). Mencie its too early to be awake. Come lay down by me and lets cuddle. S: (after squeezing him really tight). Man if stuffy wuffy feels like this I feel bad him (October 2023) A: (driving the boys to school the first day and we pull up next to their bus at a stop light) Look Spencer we have a Lady bus driver. S: Yes!!!!!!! M: Why would that matter? A: Because she's most likely nice. M: My meanest bus driver growing up was a woman. A: Girl Bus drivers can be mean but there is only 2 ways a woman bus driver can be. Guy bus drivers are like always mean (August 2023) S: Telling grandma becky that everytime he goes to the mall and shares his quarters with his siblings to get a gumball his gumball machine always gives him 2. M: It's like I say "the more you give the more get" G-ma Becky: Yup because "nothing is really yours until you give it away" S: (on the way home from Teasdale with a smurk sparkle in his eye). Mom I guess this car isn't yours until you give it to me. (June 2023) M: Your back. Couldn't your friends play tonight? S: They could but they were just watching their computer screen staring like this forever, so I said how dumb forget this I'm going home (May 2023) M: (After they handed me my large diet coke in the McDonalds drive thru. I commented to Emily what is this new cup?) E: Oh it's like the ones they gave us in California M: I hope this isn't the new thing. I don't like it. I feel like I'm getting jipped out of my $1 diet coke. E: Waaa Waaa Waaaa. Did somebody call the Waambulance. S: (Laughing so hyserically). That's so funny. Mom's a Wambulance. waaa waaa waaa (May 2023) M: (feeling pretty proud after relearning a little pre calculus and then teaching Emily to help her get ready for a test). I'm pretty awesome at teaching math E: You are mom M: I'm so good maybe I should be a math teacher. E: No you do not M: What? why not I taught you didn't I . E: Yeah but everybody hates their math teacher. Do you know how many death wishes you'd have on you? M: good point (Jan 2023) S: (talking about kindergarten and when they had special days like take your stuffed animal to school.). Mom what if the school had a come to school naked day. M: Oooo. yuck. I wouldn't want to see everyone naked. I think I would be absent that day. S: (laughing hysterically). Yeah I would call the principal and say..... I'm not feeling very good today and need to stay home. (Jane 2023) M: (driving home from Bart's parents house). OK guys when we get home we need to do Come Follow me. E: Really? I just want to go be alone. (more moaning and groaning from the others in the backseat) M: Come on guys lets not let the devil win. We can do this. E: (mocking voice:) Don't let the devil win Aaron and Jane: (chanting). Don't let the devil win. Spencer: (with his I'm a turkery lurkey smurk in his eye pipes in). Let the Devil win!! M: (trying to sound shocked ) Spencer!!!! M: (during the Pace Christmas party gift exchange I lost the money we were given in an envelope). has anyone seen the envelope for Bart and me. chatter from everyone: Way to go you lost your money. B: I just handed it to you M: Bad idea I can't keep track of anything right now I can barely move Grandpa Dick: me either (Dec 2022) S: mom do you like my wreath I made with legos? M: Sure that is very clever S: (ran off humming and talking to himself). I'm decking the halls with boughs of jolly (Dec 2022) S: mom maybe we can buy our new elf Zippy some clothese like a gingerbread suit. J: shhh..... you don't want him to hear you. S: bruh he hears everything Jane. (points to his head) He's a mind reader (Dec 2022) M: So Jane should I buy a chevy bolt. J: (looks at picture) Oh mom this is so small and you'd have to pick carpool up in this on thursday's wouldn't you? M: Well yeah but you can all squeeze J: (dramatic 13 year old eye roll with a big sigh) Let's play a game. How much does your mom NOT love you. Answer: force carpool to squeeze into a tiny car. M: Yup (then I proceed to sing the melody of Dorthy's mean neighbor riding her bike.) Do ta do ta do do.........(August 2022) S: Mom I'm really excited to be a dad someday. M: Yeah it would be fun to play with all your kids huh? S: Yeah but I want tp work like dada does and sacrifice for my family M: Thats so great. You'll make a great dad someday (August 2022) M: (I had to set up a stay in your bed reward system after 2 little boys pretty much slept on my floor for an entire summer) S: (Didn't really struggle to stay in his bed but wanted to do the same things as Aaron every night so he earned his reward really quickly. A week after he had is reward). Mom can I stay in my bed for a week and earn another reward? M: No because you don't have a hard time staying in your room anymore. S: Yes I do I wake up every night scared and want to come down to your room but then I tell myself to toughen up ( Aug. 2022) M: (in california driving Ally's 3 youngest and Spencer driving to a science camp that Hazel attended the year before) Hazel: I think you guys will be making slime. Clara: My mom really hates slime. S: Momma you hate slim to don't you. M: Yeah it can ruin things like carpet really easy. Hazel: Yeah well my mom hates it so much that anytime we bring some home from school or someplace she immediately throws it in the garbage. S: Wow your mom must.... (insert dramatic pause) M: (when I heard the pause I thought he was going to say.... be really mean) S: REALLY HATE SLIME (Aug 2022) S: hey mom do you know what would happen with our bodies if we never drank any water. M: Hmm... what do you think would happen S: I wouldn't have any tears to cry when you tell me to do something I don't want to do it. S: (sitting next to him on the bed while tucking him in) momma how was your day today? M: It was good S: what was the best part of your day? M: well there was a student at school who doesn't talk and while I was reading the book 5 little monkey's swinging on the tree he started doing the actions and then at the end said snap, snap, snap. S: Wow he really never says anything. M: nope that's why I work with him. So what was the best part of your day. S: (he sat up and gave me a big hug and said ). Giving you a hug. (Feb 2023) M: Emily you are going to make the best mom. You are so loving, accepting and encouraging of everyone around you. You go with the flow and have a great sense of humor that makes you fun to be around. Your kids are going to love you. E: Maybe but my house with will be a mess. I don't like to clean. M: You can always work on that starting with your room right now. E: Yeah no. I think I'd rather make my husband sign a waiver that if he is going to marry me he has to do all the cleaning. (Nov 2021) E: (crying big huge tears that crush a momma heart after accidentally deleting all of her pictures she took with her cheap $20 mini camera she got as a birthday present) My pictures are gone. Deleted forever M: Didn't anybody else take those pictures that you could get them from: E: Yeah but not with the weird filters and bad quality that my camera had (Nov. 2021) M: (tucking Aaron in and from the next room I hear Spencer) S: I am meditating, I am meditating, I am meditating (over and over) M: Spencer it's time to be quiet and go to sleep S: OK I'll meditate in my head (Nov 2021) S: Mom do you know that I know how to wave my arm for the primary songs? M: that's cool (thinking its the signs they teach them to help remember the words) B: (during the primary program songs Spencer in all of his glory was following along with the chorister, Bart leans over). What is he doing? M: Leading the music. Spencer's just being Spencer (afterwards the couple in charge of the sacrament music came up and said Spencer is so adorable leading the music. Who taught him how because he was right on beat) (Nov 2021) S: (singing I am a Child of God and got to the part that says 'and so my needs are great). And so my knees are grey (October 2021) E: Oh fork M: Emily your mouth. E: Mom I don't swear I utensil. (Sept 2021) A: (feeling sad and anxious in sacrament meeting about his pending talk in primary). Mom could you have another baby so I can cuddle it. M: Sorry I'm too old to have more babies. A: Well then can't you adopt one? M: No our family is complete but you can always cuddle all the new cousins. A: (big sigh). OK but I just wish one was ours(Aug 2021) S: (after the tooth fairy came and doubled his reward for letting Bart pull out both lower teeth). Man if the next time the tooth fairy comes and I only get coins I'm for sure not letting dad pull anymore teeth. Just not worth it for that (Aug 2021) G Dick: (after hearing G Becky read a facebook post from the farm Bureau about fasting/prayer for the drought). Well I'm going to start praying for wind because the more I pray for rain all I get it wind. Maybe if I pray for wind the rain will come. (May 2021) S: Mom how do you like the rainbow flowers I gave you for mother's day?

M: I love them they are the best

S: Well I really wanted to give you the pink flowers but dad said they are poisonous.

M: (in my head. Ha ha I bet Bart's poisonous means too expensive). (May 2021)

M: (Aaron wears the same couple of hoodies every day to school. Often Emily points it out to Aaron warning him not to be the kid who is always wearing the same hoodie. As Aaron came out for church one day wearing the same white shirt he's worn for the past 3 months I comment). Aaron why don't you wear another one of your church shirts. You have more in your closet?

E: Yeah Aaron do you want to be that kid always wearing the same thing?

A: I already am THAT kid(February 2021)

S: (trying to solve that there is only 3 airheads and 4 kids problem). I have an idea. Aaron you can give Emily a little bit of your arrow head and Jane you can give Emily a little bit of your arrow head. That's a good solution.

M: What about you can you share some of your airhead?

S: But I want all of mine (January 2021)

S: (Bart and I arrived home from a date). Mom your home. How was your wedding?

M: It was a date not a wedding Spencer

S: Oh well how was your date? (January 2021)

S: (after hearing that Bart and I are going on a date). But mom if you and dad are on a date there won't be any parents around for me to talk to all day (January 2021)

S: (wrapped up a gift me for all by himself, wrote M O M on it and handed it to me Christmas morning.)

M: Spencer how nice of you. Did you wrap this yourself

S: Beamed with pride.

M: (opened it and saw an empty roll of tape).

S: It's for you to take and put more tape on it (Dec 2020)

M: (coughing after choking on some water in the car)

J: Oh mom you've got to stop coughing or people will think you have covid.

M: It's not like you can just make yourself not cough.

J: I can. I guess you are just not at the level yet mom.

E: It's true mom. You should see how everyone looks at someone when they start coughing in class (Dec 2020)

J: (coming down the stair the night after Zoey arrived and she saw that Zoey hadn't moved. She walked by me shaking her head). Mom what will the kids think?

M: Jane it had to be done or Spencer will never learn his lesson to not touch the elf. (Dec 2020)

S: (looking at his plate of unappetizing dinner). Mom you know how after I poop some of it is in my underwear and then my bum starts to itch.

M: Yeah

S: Well eating makes you poop so I'm not going to each anymore and then I won't poop and have an itchy bum.

M: And you will also starve to death

S: Oh yeah. Hmmm... (Nov 2020)

E: Jane how was planting flowers at the Temple today?

J: Well lets just say I chose the wrong day to wear my low rise jeans. (Sept 2020)

S: (in the backseat of the car talking on an old flip phone he uses to play with) Hello, Hello, Hey can you help me out because my mom always asks me to clean (Sept 2020)

S: (I was taking too long finishing something in the kitchen before taking Spencer to bed) Come on mom. Chop, Chop I want to go to bed.

J: Dad everyone's already at the airbnb. Why do we always have to be the last to arrive.

M: (hiking on a trail near Wallace ID and a bug flew into my mouth. I was with Aaron at the time) eww yuck a bug just flew into my mouth.

A: Well at least you got some extra protein from it (July 2020)

M: (leaving Lake Powell after hurrying to load up in a wind storm) next year we've got to figure out how to get on a house boat.

S: How can we figure that out? Hmm.. we'll also have to figure out how to to drive the boat and get the boat. 1st we need to get the boat and then we climb up the ladder to get on the boat and then how do you drive it?

M: I think dad could drive it but it cost too much money.

S: OK then we can sell lemonade and pay for it (June 2020)

G-ma Becky: (I was having a conversation with my mom about some of my opinions about her new house) Jane have you ever noticed that when your mom wants to change someone's mind she has this way of talking to you until you finally give in?

J: Yeah it's super annoying (April 2020)

A: (we were driving along 1-15 near Thanksgiving point and noticing Jane's name on a large skyscraper building) Wow Jane look its your name.

J: (glanced up saw her name glanced back down at her book she was reading and replied nonchalantly) Yeah it's my building (April 2020)

E: (Whenever Jane gets upset Emily teases her saying) "Geez Jane you've got quite the attitude going on. When was the last time you took off those attitude pants? (We now like to tease Jane about her attitude pants.

D: (walking in the room when Jane was on one.) Jane time to change your attitude.

J: AAGG... I already changed my pants today (April 2020)

S: (the kids were upset with him because he wouldn't listen to me and made them all lose screen time for the rest of the day) I guess I'm not your buchie buchie boo anymore am I? (April 2020)

B: Spencer come here I have a question for you?

S: (knowing his dad wants him to get dressed for our family Easter sacrament, he thinks everyday should be a PJ day) No dad! I just don't want to hear it from you right now (April 2020)

J: I think fasting is going to make me really fat because when I can finally eat I'm going to eat everything I can. (April 2020)

M: After dinner we are all going on a walk to get out of the house

S: Aaah mom I wanted to be lazy today (April 2020)

E: (at Smiths) Oh I want this treat instead of the cookie.

J: Alright I'll go put it back Or..... I just keep it for myself. (April 2020)

S: (running by me on his way out of the laundry room door with hilarious outfit on. He also ran by Bart and I standing in the kitchen at full speed buck naked) check ya later.... (April 2020)

S: (yelling at someone at the dinner table) Shut up!! Your so annoying

B: Spencer!!!

S: (flippantly) Sorry

B: We don't say those words in our house

S: (listening to a new Selena Gomez song while driving in the car) mom why does it say I need to lose you to love you? (it really says I needed to lose you to love me) (big pause....) maybe it should say I need to find you to love you (March 2020)

S: Mom do you know that when I was screaming in the middle of then night, I didn't wake up Aaron.... It's magic (Feb 2020)

S: (running past Emily after he put on his grey comfy pants. i.e. jogging pants that are exactly like Janes) Emily we are not twinner winners. Only Jane and I are twinner winners (Dec 2019)

S: I'm going to count the popcorn and then I'm going to collect them in my mouth (Nov. 2019)

A: (really angrily) Mom why does it always have to be about Emily?

S: (calmly) and me Aaron. (Nov. 2019)

S: (sitting waiting at the regional PTA awards ceremony and listening to kids names called out along with their school i.e. Craig from Sunrise. Spencer leaned over and said) Mom are they going to say Spencer from Cindy's soon? (Nov 2019)

S: (came into the laundry room and stomped his feet) MOM come help me put away this puzzle. I'm done with it. It makes me flusterated (Oct. 2019)

S: ( made a blanket fort on the couch) mom come see my personal space I made (Oct. 2019)

J: i scream for ice cream.

S: I scream for.... hot dogs (Oct. 2019)

S: (I've been waiting to hear this since I became a mother 13+ years ago) Mom your a good mom because you make me clean up (Oct 2019)

E: (giving the come follow me lesson one night about Godly Sorrow and asking each of us to share an example of when we felt it.) Aaron it's you turn when have you felt Godly Sorrow?

A: (doing his cute confused face) Hey I'm only 6 I haven't lived long enough for stuff like that (Sept 2019)

A: (After hearing me pray that he would have fun at school). You know mom I always have fun at school.

M: I know you do and you never get in trouble do you?

A: No not really maybe just once or twice.

M: Really what did you do?

A: I can't remember but everyone gets in trouble once in a while. You can't go the whole year not getting in trouble. (Sept 2019)

S: (wailing, screaming, crying etc...)

J: Mom you got to do something about him

M: Jane his tired and 3. There's nothing I can do for him.

J: Well at least go get him some therapy or something(May 2019)

S: pinky pinky please (i.e. pretty pretty please)(April 2019)

S: (in the car with the whole family). Mom stop talking to dad

M: I can talk to dad

S: No he's my friend

M: Well he's my friend too. In fact he is my best friend and I love him.

S: No he's my friend. You go talk to Ally (Feb 2019)

S: (after sacrament meeting I stopped to talk to a friend. Spencer became impatient anxious to get to nursery). Mom chop, chop (Feb 2019)

J: (walking through the bakery at walmart late in the evening) Mom I am so full nothing looks good. Even the sugar cookies look disgusting. In fact everything seems really gross....... Expect cheesecake. That always seems good. (Jan 2019)

M: Nice job Aaron scoring all those baskets

A: Yeah well it helps when they pair you up with the small kid (Jan 2019)

M: (walking in the house and seeing it spotless )Wow Jane did you clean this all up?

J: Yes but don't kiss me (I often chase her around telling her she's the best and give her a big hug and kiss, she hates it, but secretly loves it)

E: Yep Jane your definitely favorite daughter of the day.

M: You know Emily you can try and be favorite daughter too.

E: hmmm.... Maybe tomorrow I'll do the dishes to become favorite daughter of the day.

J: Oh yeah then I'll scrub all the bathrooms so you won't be

E: Yeah then I'll do something even better

M: I'm liking the sound of this competition. Keep it up

E: Mom when was the last time you washed your hair?

M: A couple of days ago why?

E: It looks a little....shiny

S: (driving home from the airport after picking up Bart) Daddy I stole your pido (pillow)

B: Oh yeah?

J: (running in after school ripping her backpack open and pulling out a brand new recorder she just got from school) You guys want to hear something that sounds horrible (Sept 2018)

S: (waking up in the tent while camping) I dreamed about treats. It's fun (Sept 2018)

J: (vacuuming the car) Wow mom it's getting hot back here

M: Yeah I know it is. Maybe just hurry and finish it doesn't have to be perfect.

M: I can give you some money now for babysitting

J: mom I think I'd rather you just buy me toys with it. Because if you give me cash I just want to save it (August 2018)

E: Mom we have to go to Wal Mart now to get school supplies before we leave for Grandma Becky's house tomorow.

M: We still have over 3 weeks until school starts I'm sure we can go after you get back.

E: Oh no we can't mom because all the stuff except for the black binders and black notebooks and other black stuff will be gone and then I'll go to school and everyone will think I'm goth (August 2018)

A: Mom will you come help me turn on a movie with this remote.

M: Ok what movie

A: Oh ok we will watch that one. Now will you click on the episode

M: (clicking on episode 3)

A: Oh not this one. This one is about Love and I hate Love (July 2018)

M: (giving Spencer his daily potty pep talk). OK Spencer when you feel poop in your bum yell potty potty and we'll run to the toliet and then the poop will get in the toliet and then you'll get that yo yo you really want.

S: (shakes his head) I don't want too. I don't like yo yo's anymore (July 2018)

G. Becky: Have you seen Spencer kick? I've never seen a 2 year old who can kick over his head. It's amazing. I hope I live long enough to watch him play professional soccer.

M: I hope I live long enough to see him poop in the toliet

G. Becky: Oh Collette he is only 2 it's way more important that he kick higher than his head (June 2018)

J: If I move a cop will see me and know I'm not in my seat belt and put me in jail and then you will be alone everyday to clean the house by yourself(Jan 2014).

J: (on Christmas Eve) tomorrow I'm going to think about Jesus all day.
M: that's a great idea Jane. We could even wait to open presents so we can think about him all day.

E: (Our Elf was discovered on the floor with Aaron as the culprit being the one who drug her around and left her in the middle of the floor. Emily was very distraught upon finding this Elf knowing that because she was touched she probably wouldn't be able to make it back to the North Pole). I just don't know what we are going to do about the Elf. It's not going to be able to go back to the North Pole again because it's in the middle of the floor and it will keep getting touched. (thinking) What can we do? I hate this but I think the only thing that can be done is to get rid of Aaron so the Elf won't be touched and can move again(Dec 2013)

J: (Emily found an old small stocking with her name on it so she put it next to her other one on the mantel. Jane noticed it a day or so later and said) Mom we have 2 Emily stockings and we need to take this one off. M: I know fast also means to go without food.

M: That's fine but in a few months you'll be baptized and Heavenly Father will want you to start fasting

M: Well that's part of fasting learning to not whine when your hungry.
